Extension of the easement for EU food and farming imports

14 September, 2021

The easement covering food and farming imports from the EU has been extended as it’s confirmed there will be a delay in the implementation of post-Brexit border controls on agri-food imports from the EU.

The requirements for pre-notification of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) goods are postponed until 1 January 2022 instead of being required from 1 October this year. The requirement for export health certificates is delayed until 1 July 2022, from 1 October 2021. Phytosanitary certificates and physical checks on SPS goods at border control posts will also be delayed until 1 July 2022. Safety and security declarations on imports will now be required from 1 July 2022 instead of 1 January 2022.
